Daniel Allen (MMT, MTA, BMT) is a certified music therapist and the owner of Allen Music Therapy. I am a multi-instrumentalist, specializing in guitar and trombone. I received my Bachelor in Music Therapy (BMT) in June 2014 and completed my Master of Music Therapy (MMT) in 2018, both at Wilfrid Laurier University. My masters paper focused on researched methods of expanding the use of functional-level guitar techniques in music therapy sessions.
I started Allen Music Therapy in 2015, providing in-home and online sessions to clients throughout Waterloo Region.
I have clinical experience with a wide variety of client populations including attention deficit, autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, and dementia patients. I have facilitated clinical work in schools, long-term care facilities, group homes, and with community organizations.
My use of the developmental approach allows me to work with a wide variety of clients and to develop music-based interventions that are best suited for each client’s unique needs. My main goal is to help my clients develop abilities through the application, processing, and performance of music. I also believe in focusing on client strengths and abilities and using those to help with the developmental process.
I am a member in good standing of the Canadian Association for Music Therapy (CAMT), and the Music Therapy Association of Ontario (MTAO). I’m currently serving on the MTAO board as Member Relations Chair.
