Daniel Allen (MMT, MTA, BMT) is a certified music therapist and the owner of Allen Music Therapy. I am a talented multi-instrumentalist, specializing in guitar, trombone, piano, voice and percussion. I received my Bachelor in Music Therapy (BMT) at Wilfrid Laurier University in June 2014 and completed a 1000-hour clinical internship at Zareinu Education Centre of Metropolitan Toronto (now called Kayla’s Children Centre) in June 2015. I received my MTA status in October 2015. I received my Master of Music Therapy (MMT) degree in August 2018. During this time, I studied music-psychotherapeutic practices and researched methods of expanding the use of functional-level guitar techniques in music therapy sessions.
I started Allen Music Therapy in 2015 in Kitchener-Waterloo, ON and spent three years providing in-home sessions to numerous clients within Waterloo Region. Allen Music Therapy has also been involved with numerous local music and therapy companies including Queen Street Music in Cambridge and Creative Therapy Health Services in Waterloo. Allen Music Therapy is now based in Whitby, ON and serves Durham Region and the surrounding area.
I have clinical experience with a wide variety of client populations including attention deficit, autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, and dementia patients. I have facilitated clinical work in schools, long-term care facilities, community organizations, and at a federal correctional institution.
My use of the developmental approach allows me to work with a wide variety of clients and to develop music-based interventions that are best suited for each client’s unique needs. My main goal is to help my clients develop abilities through the application, processing, and performance of music. I also believe in focusing on client strengths and abilities and using those to help with the developmental process.
I am a member in good standing of the Canadian Association for Music Therapy (CAMT), and the Music Therapy Association of Ontario (MTAO).
